We See You

Dr Louise Oni’s dedication to the UK kidney ecosystem shines through in this dark monochromatic artwork.

It is based on a microscopic section of a  kidney biopsy, with the child encapsulated inside the glomerulus and each surrounding tuft intricately woven to symbolise the collaborative efforts of the 13 paediatric nephrology centres working together to help children with rare kidney diseases.

At its heart, a hopeful child gazes towards a radiant light, embodying the beacon of hope that the ecosystem provides for these young people battling this rare disease.

Scientist – Dr Louise Oni

Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Nephrology, University of Liverpool

Louise’s research is built around a quest to stop the inevitable journey to kidney failure. Kidney disease is an ‘invisible disease’ as they don’t cause obvious signs of being sick, meaning that they don’t get the awareness that they deserve.
