The Path We Take; the Path We are Taking; the Path We Will Take; the Path Beyond…
This artwork delves into the transformation of cellular images and Niemann-Pick disease type C, inspired by Prof Frances Platt’s research.
For over a decade, I’ve explored humanity’s profound aspects, aiming to depict the journey from pain to spiritual enlightenment, finding solace in freedom, dreams, and hope.
Capturing the suffering of individuals and families, the artwork offers a meditative concept. Drawing with live models fosters direct human connection, while the mirror symbolises introspection and self-dialogue.
Cellular shapes surrounding the broken mirror frame signify imperfections in art and life, embraced as part of our journey.
The thread signifies the link between physical and mental existence, with chakra stones representing energy and healing.

We research a rare genetic disease called Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC). NPC is a severe neurodegenerative disease that can present at any stage of life but most commonly in childhood. The disease is the result of a specialised part of the cell called the lysosome going wrong leading to the build-up of lipids in the cells of the body.
