Céline Marie perceives ALS/MND as an unfortunate reflection of the current state of humanity living in a disembodied culture, disconnected from the nervous system of nature that connects all of creation. It manifests when intoxicated neurons stop transmitting messages from the mind to the body, leaving them disconnected. As the muscles give up, the despair of the isolated mind in a broken body follows a slow, incurable rupture towards death. Rupture is an early French word meaning ‘a breach of the peace’ originating from the Latin, ruptūra.
This work evokes the separation between the muscles and the neurons, which are painted in original blood, and will progressively disappear from the canvas within 5 years.
